This antiqued violin is
made with refined craftsmanship and exceptional taste by Maestro Pao in his
renowned Beijing violin workshop in China. The term "antiqued" is used to
describe the technique used by violin makers to make a violin look older than it
actually is. The varnish of this violin has been made to look like an old
violin where the varnish on certain areas of the violin have been worn out and
is lighter in coloration than the original varnish.
Many people prefer the older antique look on a violin since good antique violins
are rare and valuable. With the antiqued look, this violin not only produces
great sound it is also very beautiful to look at like a piece of art.
This violin is a very special model in our
collection. It comes with a beautiful one piece back. This highly unique
flamed back enhances the esthetic value of the violin. The quality of wood used
on this violin is exceptional. It has a very tight grain spruce for the
violin top. Highly flamed curly maple is used throughout the violin:
scroll, neck, side, and violin back. There is no doubt that the best wood
was used to make this violin.
This violin is tastefully antiqued
throughout. The violin top is antiqued with darkened color around the
bridge. Around the f-holes, the varnish is rubbed off the wood to create
additional antique effect. The antique effect is exquisite on the back of
the violin. The varnish is beautifully lightened at the lower part of the
violin back to replicate the look of an old violin where the varnish comes off
after long term usage. The upper left of the violin back is also
lightened. This is the spot where the varnish of an old violin would come
off from being played in high positions.
This violin is of early 2005 vintage year from
Maestro Pao's workshop. It has since been in the Music Basics collection
and has been allowed to age before being released for sale. The aging
process allows the different elements that make up a violin (all the different
wood parts bent to form the violin, varnish, glue that holds the violin
together, tension from the strings, etc.) to settle. Ultimately, the
purpose of the aging process is to allow the violin to mature so it can produce
a warmer, fuller and resonating sound, like an old violin. A newly made
violin requires time for its sound to open up because there is a lot of tension
in the violin: tension in the wood bent to form the violin, new varnish coated
on the violin creates an additional source of tension, etc. Hence, a new
violin will sound like a "new violin". The delayed release of this violin
for sale has allowed the violin some aging time and will let you enjoy the
violin's full potential sooner rather than having to wait for the violin to
mature.
The violin also comes with a Pernambuco bow and a suspension case. The bow is made out of
professional grade Pernambuco with Mongolian horsehair providing great
stability/flexibility, control, and sound volume/projection. The archtop design of the case provides solid strength to the
overall integrity of the case hence providing the utmost protection for the
viola stored inside it. It also features well padded handle, large subway handle, accessory
compartment, and full length music pocket. These features make carrying viola
to lesson, school or orchestra practice easy.

The wood archtop hardshell case provides the utmost protection for the
violin stored inside it. The hardshell case provides solid strength to the
overall integrity of the case. The arch shape design of the case top adds
additional rigidity to the case. This design is valuable in providing
uncompromising case integrity in the event of accidentally placing heavy load on
top of case and protecting violin's most vulnerable parts.
The case also comes with many other protection features for
the violin: deluxe 4-point suspension cushions, neck strap, blanket, and soft neck
